My Persona
For this week, we split our attention on two separate, but complementary subjects: color and user personas. Within the realm of color, we specifically focused on concepts relating to contrast and hierarchy. The LinkedIn educational video felt a bit dated, but it was nevertheless rather neat to see how colors are strategically used by artists to command the attention of viewers toward focal aspects of their artwork. Color decisions in art had often felt arbitrary and subjective to me in the past, but exploring the emotive qualities of color, texture, and contrast showed me that there are truly many more universal, standardized principles to choosing colors than I had at first realized.
The user persona project was familiar to me, since I have created a user persona before for a Google certificate course I had taken in the past. Though the assignment was familiar to me, I found the requirements for employing hierarchy and color contrast to be a surprising yet healthy challenge. At first I focused more on following a grid structure, which was helpful for organization. But then I realized that the design was too cluttered, so I had to get more creative by using more white space and adding some asymmetry. By the end, the assignment showed me that user personas are a great way to practice your design skills while working on a User Experience solution.
